Day two and pretty tough. But, we got there.
We had booked at Hotel Roncesvalles wanting to be sure that we had a bed for the night prior after such a long slog. It was a welcome sight.
After a shower and lie down (we are now in Spain and it is siesta time - nothing to do but rest in the afternoon) it was time to explore this village (about 6 buildings plus a church). First stop was the pilgrim office to get our passport stamped and then to an area of the church where the remains of St Augustine are lying.
What was called for by then was a fortifying beer before mass at 6pm!
Yes, we both went to mass. Actually it was a nice mass; a sung mass con-celebrated with five priests. At the end of the mass the pilgrims were called to the front to be blessed by one of the priests.
So - we now have our passports, have made it over the Pyrenees, been to mass and been blessed. All the rites of passage are complete for now and we begin walking across Spain tomorrow.
