I set off at 6,15am and did 10km before breakfast.
Unfortunately the only breakfast stop was right next to some street drilling so after a café con leche and half of the bocadillo tortillo I set off again.
I enjoyed the walk, was pleased to be doing it in the relative to cool of the morning and also sure that as I arrived in the morning I would be bound to score a bottom bunk.
I tried to limit my drinking without being silly about it because the water that I filled up with before leaving the albergue in Hornillos was so foul as to be almost udrinkable. So when I arrived at the albergue in Castrojeriz I was a bit dry and more than a little disappointed to find that one of the albergues didn´t open until 3pm and the other 1,30pm. It was not yet 11,30. So much for that plan.
I decided to buy a water substitute (beer!) and sit down in the shade and wait rather than walk another 10km. And like all things Spanish, the time never means the time and i was glad I had because it opened before noon.
So I caught up on my nap, showered, did the laundry and found a trashy novel in English to while away a couple of quiet afternoon hours. All very pleasant but I am not sure that it is worth repeating. Then again perhaps I will give it one more go as I will be walking a bit further tomorrow.
10ks before breakfast? Goodness, you'll be running rings around us when you get to London...
